From intern to investor: returning to where it all started

Meet Alicia, Associate in Stockholm, who first discovered Altor as a student and has since returned to build her career at the firm.

Alicia’s journey with Altor began early. While completing her studies, she gained hands-on experience as an intern at the firm, an opportunity that would ultimately help shape her career path. This early exposure to the investment processes, people and ways of working gave her a strong foundation and a lasting connection to the team. After spending a few years at management consulting firm Bain & Company, Alicia returned to Altor.

“I already knew the people and the company. When I was given the chance to return full-time, it felt absolutely right.”

Beyond the work itself, it was the people who made the difference.

Alicia describes the culture as highly collaborative and intellectually driven, but with an unexpected level of creativity and curiosity.

“It’s very team-focused, and people are equally ambitious and curious. Everyone’s encouraged to think; is there any other way we could solve this issue than the traditional one?”

Alicia’s role spans from evaluating new investment opportunities to working closely with portfolio companies, offering a balance between analysis and execution. This hands-on exposure has given her insight into both the investment process and the operational realities of helping companies grow.

One of the aspects she values most is the opportunity to gain experience across different industries and investment themes. This breadth of exposure has been central, helping her build a strong foundation while gradually discovering the areas that interest her most and developing her own expertise.

“You quickly become involved in many different workstreams, allowing you to gain new knowledge fast, but also discover where your own passion lies. This helped me shape my career path, and that’s something I truly appreciate.”
