A conversation with Stefan Linder and Jens Browaldh on Altor’s engagement beyond investing

The ‘Altor Communities’ were launched in 2023 with the purpose to utilize our network, engagement model, knowledge and capital to drive positive societal impact beyond our investment and ownership activities.

 

What was the driving force for setting up ‘Altor Communities’?

Stefan: We have always actively supported external organisations, as partners and individuals, but wanted to focus these efforts and keep it fully in line with the culture and values of our firm. It’s really a great way to rally the passion from our employees, make the most of their enthusiasm and engagement, and leverage the knowledge we all have to offer.

 

 

Where does your personal motivation for this initiative come from?
Jens: My wife immigrated to Sweden when she was eight and managed to get an education. I wish everyone would have the opportunity she did. Education should not be something you are born into out of privilege, but accessible to all.

What do you strive to achieve in your community and how?
Stefan: If you look at statistics on women in leading and senior positions, and in boards – it’s still poor, even in perceived advanced and equal societies such as Sweden. We need to work with recruitment to ensure those hiring understand and exhibit the values of diversity, while at the same time, find ways to retain the best and diverse talent, that can go on to inspire younger generations. Our network effect will be key in this; to expand and share our thinking to those with whom we work on this initiative.

 

 

Jens: For me, I’m also excited about engaging our portfolio companies in these initiatives – as they can offer unique expertise in many areas of business, entrepreneurship and education. They also have feet on the ground in countries around the world that can support those that need it most.
